School of Kolga-Jaani is a lower secondary school (basic school) in the rural area of Estonia in Viljandi County about 15 kilometres north from the country’s second biggest lake Võrtsjärve. Kolga-Jaani is a small country town of approx 400 inhabitants. The distance from county capital Viljandi is ca 30 km.

The School of Kolga-Jaani is a municipality school governed by Viljandi County Governement. The school has long traditions – on the upcoming autumn it celebrates the 335th anniversary of teaching children in the area. The lower secondary school and the local kindergarten were merged last autumn into one organization. 66 students from grades 1-9 are listed in the school, and 36 kids in the kindergarten (from 1,5 years up to 6 years) today.

The school has a large territory (more than 30000 square metres) providing excellent opportunities for outdoor activities. School itself consists of two connected buildings with a green “winter yard” (with an abundance of plants and flowers, it is a nice environment for recovery and recreation for both students and faculty) and a modern sport hall with a normal size basketball court and a gym. The school has also several sporting facilities outdoors – options to play basketball, volleyball, football, table tennis etc. but also several gym facilities to improve personal physical abilities. The school has well-equipped modern classrooms, computer classroom, canteen, playground. In the same building there is also a youth centre and a kindergarten. Pupils on elementary level are offered the possibility to take part in extended-day groups, while their parents are at work. The school is situated next to the Lutheran church. The library is situated across the street, with computer for public use, public internet access, scanning and printing services.

At the lower secondary level teaching is organized in full-time / stationary form and also in non-stationary form of study. The aim of the School of Kolga-Jaani is to provide pre-school aged children with day care, pre-school education, preparation for school; at the lower secondary school level the aim is to provide basic education in accordance with requirements of national curriculum of lower secondary schools. The children, students, their families and the teachers all co-operate in sake of the development of the School of Kolga-Jaani. School strives for mutual trust in the school, for a safe environment. It recognizes the students, parents and school staff for outstanding achievments. The school looks for solutions to situations for which there are missing instructions. The School of Kolga-Jaani self-reflects and learns from its mistakes, takes notice of students´ individuality and supports them in achieving experience of success.
