City of Angers:
Angers is the 16th largest city in France (150,000 inhabitants), the centre of the urban community of Angers Loire Métropole (300,000 inhabitants), the capital of the department of Maine et Loire and the historical capital of Anjou. The city is part of the Pays de la Loire region.

As a local authority, the city is administered by an elected municipal council which intervenes in all areas of competence characterised by the general local interest. The City of Angers has approximately 4,500 employees working in various departments to serve the city's inhabitants.

The Departement of European and International Affairs deals with all the city's foreign relations (international networks, sister cities, Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, etc.) as well as the foreign communities settled in Angers (associations, foreign representations, events). A great deal of efforts is made to make our inhabitants aware of foreign cultures, in particular the younger generations (workshops made by the ambassadors of our sister cities at school or in community centers, extracuricular activities dedicated to Europe or other parts of the world, joint activities with foreign institutes...). We decided to apply for Quality label to reinforce our action towards young people and broaden their cultural awareness. We want them to understand what is European citizenship and feel how rewarding it is to share strong values and understand other ways of thinking.
