The Culture Department contributes to a good urban environment in Stockholm by participating early in the city's planning processes with several different perspectives: cultural environment, architecture, artistic design and the local cultural life. A developed internal interplay between cultural environment, cultural life and cultural strategy leads to an increased cultural presence in urban development.

Our aims:
The Culture Departments mission is to create opportunities for all citizens in Stockholm to take part in high-quality culture that is important to everyone. Our mission is to be relevant to all citizens no matter their background, experience or living conditions.
Our three focus areas are:
* Children and young people
* Suburban areas
* Digitization

Target Groups
Our mission is to be relevant to all citizens no matter their background, experience or living conditions.
Children and young people are a priority target group for the whole Culture Department. The fact that the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is now law also underlines the importance of all children in the city being given opportunities and meeting places to discover, immerse themselves in and participate in the artistic and cultural life.

The culture strategic department supports independent professional culture, culture associations, artist studios and scholarships, adult education, NGO´s and community centers. Specific support is given to strengthen the culture of national minorities and young people’s own cultural projects.

The Stockholm School of Arts provides a wide range of leisure activities for young people aged 6-22 years who reside in the city of Stockholm. Courses cover a wide range of activities in music, drama, dance, fine art and media. There are over 70 cultural subjects. There are currently over 17000 young people enrolled and the organisation hosts a staff of 350 teachers, technicians and administrative personnel. The activities include the Centre of Recourses for young people with disabilities and special needs. In addition, there is a mediacenter Unga Berättar/“Speaking Youth” working with young people’s democracy and El Sistema. We have 17 own premises, fully equipped premises with stages, lighting and sound equipment, decor and costume storage. We also have art and design workshops, dance halls, studios and music rooms. We also have operations in about 70 schools around the City of Stockholm. Stockholm School of Arts aims to give all young people opportunities to participate in cultural activities and express themselves artistically regardless of their disabilities, family or economic circumstances.

Through the Library Act, libraries have an important democratic mission. Access to information and knowledge is fundamental for a free formation of opinion and for participation in a democratic society. The library also takes great responsibility for filling the need for digital citizen service that many today lack. Offering access to technical equipment that is currently required to apply for jobs, education or to communicate with authorities, companies and other administrations is also an important task for the city's library.

City Museum and Medieval Museum provides Exhibitions, Seminars, Programs for schools and students (also students with special needs, Students with foreign backgrounds), Guided and digital City walks and Tours, Heritage, Library and research room.
