Established on the 7th of December 1966 following the work and true to the philosophy of the French humanist Raoul Follereau (1903 – 1977), the Fondation Follereau Luxembourg is a cooperation and development NGO with more than 50 years of experience and was recognized as an «organization of public interest» in 1984. The Fondation Follereau is committed to improving and fostering quality of life for the most vulnerable African populations. Alongside its trusted partners, the Fondation Follereau Luxembourg strengthens local, inclusive and positive initiatives to answer local needs for better healthcare, education, protection and emergency.
Since 1966, the Fondation Follereau Luxembourg has expanded its field of action, beyond its initial cause: fighting leprosy. Over the years, the activities have extended to reinforcing local capabilities and infrastructures as well as raising awareness while focusing on one and unique area: the African continent.
The values of the Fondation Follereau Luxembourg are:
• Solidarity with the most vulnerable populations
• Inclusion and sustainable contribution of all stakeholders
• Empowerment of communities and beneficiary structures
• Promotion of gender equality
• Efficiency of provided support
The Fondation Follereau has become a reliable and solid player in Luxembourg within the cooperation and development field and has been working closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Furthermore, the foundation receives generous and regular support from private Luxembourgish donors as well as other sponsors, which shows its ability to establish and maintain long-term and stable relations with both donors and local partner-associations.
Finally, the Fondation Follereau works independently from any political, religious or social beliefs.
Through its projects, the Fondation Follereau Luxembourg is working for the respect of fundamental human rights and hereby actively contributes to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), set by the United Nations for the 2030 Agenda. The foundation ensures that the endorsed projects are initiated by its partners, meeting the needs of the local population. Projects exist for and by the community, which enables a positive and lasting sustainable impact and the foundation is active in 9 countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Madagascar, Mali and Togo.
By constantly placing the beneficiaries at the center of its activities, the Fondation Follereau aims at making its contribution the most efficient possible. Through its actions, it wishes to bring about real and durable change by giving the means to each project to become self-sustainable and give to the beneficiaries better perspectives for their future.
Practically, each project is planned around a global objective and several specific goals which are split into expected results. Only from these results can the team define a set of activities. These activities, once implemented, should then lead to the results defined at first (result-based project management approach).
