Zelena Akcija (ZA) is a leading non-governmental, non-profit environmental organisation established in 1990. It is part of the global ‘Friends of the Earth International’ network with 2 million members. This year, ZA celebrated its 32nd anniversary of activism in environmental protection. It is run by a team of 16 dedicated staff and approximately 40 volunteers. Through education and public advocacy campaigns, ZA is working towards sustainable development of communities and protection of nature and the environment.
ZA is active at a local, national and international levels and is focused on activities fostering public participation in democratic decision-making processes, with the aim of improving the quality of life and the levels of social inclusion in Croatia. Most of the progress is done by running educational activities, skill sharing workshops, campaigns, seminars, conferences, newsletters and influencing legislation.
ZA aims to prepare communities – particularly marginalised ones - for the challenges that spring from the devastating impacts of climate change and other environmental crises.
Education plays a key role in our organisation, with core activities ranging from learning about just transition and the sustainable energy sector, zero waste, leaderful organising and entrepreneurialism, as well as debates, network meetings and events on the topics such as solidarity economy, urban planning, permaculture to resilience to climate change.
