Kuyavian-Pomeranian Louis Braille Special Educational Center No. 1 for Blind and Visually Impaired Children and Youth in Bydgoszcz is located in the city center. This is the oldest school in Poland (established in 1872) dealing with the education, upbringing and revalidation of children and youth with visual impairment. Last year the Center celebrated its 150th. It is thought for children and young people from the whole Poland, mostly the North of it .The governing body of the facility is the the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship.
When working with a visually impaired child, we rely both on modern technological devices and the practical knowledge of professionals.
We implement numerous projects and social campaigns (e.g. "I don't see you - you see me" to celebrate the International White Cane Day).
We place great emphasis on supporting development of a small child and supporting parents of blind and visually impaired students.
We are present in social media (https://www.facebook.com/kpsoswnr1wbydgoszczy/), and the scope of activities is documented on the institution's website www.braille.bydgoszcz.pl.
Our educational work with disabled students is grounded on building positive relationships with them. We cover all the levels of education. Our students are basically from 0 to 24. Our main goal is to prepare the blind and partially sighted students for an active and independent life. We work on our students’ strengths and abilities.
