Our village of 1400 inhabitants is located in Normandy, Calvados, between countryside and sea, 20 km from Caen, 10 km to Cabourg, 10 km to Ouistreham, 3 km to the sea. It has been twinned with England (Dolton, Devon) since 1981, Germany (Hillerse, Lower Saxony) 1999, and Brunehaut (Belgium, Hainaut) 2005.
Our twinning association Amfreville-Dolton-Hillerse is in charge of relationships with England and Germany (triangular twinning). We have been organising
- exchanges between families, teenagers, and schools, but also choirs, firemen, fishermen, young footballers... Each time, we spend several days there, hosted by families, sharing their life, discovering the country, games..., several sides of their culture
- classes of German and English for children and adults. We helped to keep German language taught at our secondary school
- events for our local communities, in order to make people discover a part of our partners' culture, such as Christmas market (with British and German products), party with a European theme and food to go with, Irish music and dance night, trip to London or Guernsey, breakfast or brunch from different European countries, sustainable development activity... We often work with other partners, associations, schools, the village elected officials, Calvados Council, other twinning associations. We organised a big European project in 2014, "Peace" (70th anniversary of D-Day), with many partners and inhabitants and more than 150 guests from many countries.
