The Fédération Départementale Familles Rurales de Vendée is a non governmental organisation created in 1974. It is part of a national network, Familles Rurales, that aims to develop rural areas and to help thousands of families in improving their quality of life. It includes 2 500 affiliated local associations. The movement defends and promotes the interests of rural families in France. That’s why it proposes supporting activities in the fields of associative life, local development and training. The values promoted by Familles Rurales are popular education, tolerance and solidarity. In Vendée, accredited associations and the Fédération Départementale are working in the family, educational and youth fields. Their presence concerns 50% of the cities in Vendée and 60 000 inhabitants of the département benefit from their services. The federation and the labelized associations are composed of 9 000 members families, 3 000 volunteers and around 1400 salaried employees. The profiles of volunteers are very diverse: young and old people, retired or in activity… They shape together leisure activities (dance, theater, music…) and administrative services such as school transportation, school restaurant or youth center. The volunteers work with salaried employees that apply the decisions of the association’s administration council.
