Alte Feuerwache e.V. – Jugendbildungsstätte Kaubstraße is a non-profit youth education centre in Berlin. We create learning spaces where young people experience democracy as practice: understanding power relations, debating real conflicts, and developing skills for participation and social responsibility. Our goals are to strengthen critical thinking, inclusion and solidarity, and to equip young people to act in their schools, communities and workplaces. Our main activities are multi-day seminars and workshops on discrimination awareness, civic participation, climate justice and media literacy; peer-to-peer trainings for youth leaders; practice-oriented courses for educators and youth workers; and year-round programmes that connect schools, community groups and international partners. Learning is participatory, reflective and hands-on. Our target groups are children and youth from primary to upper secondary schools, apprentices and students, volunteers in civic service, and early-career educators and youth workers, especially those with fewer opportunities. We host three long-term ESC volunteering placements per year (one in administration, two in educational work). Volunteers receive structured mentoring and supervision, language support, and recognition of learning through Youthpass/Europass. Our facilities and working culture are being further adapted to ensure accessibility and a safe, welcoming environment for all.
