Stupor Mundi is a social promotion association founded in Sicily in 2024 to address the brain drain from Southern Italy. Our focus is on raising awareness of this issue, preserving local culture, contrasting rural depopulation, and analyzing the reasons behind the migration of families and youth, such as educational poverty, lack of job opportunities, and rigid cultural attitudes. Our goals are to promote the sense of community by community engagement, active citizenship, and emotional connections to local places. We aim to empower people to express themselves and participate in democratic processes. Locally, we collaborate with schools to offer workshops that combine formal and non formal education, improve soft skills, provide teacher training, hold parent-teacher meetings, prevent bullying, and promote social co-design. Internationally, we support youth mobility programs, encouraging young people to explore Europe, build a sense of European citizenship, and share their local experiences and challenges abroad. Our local target group includes secondary school students (13-19) and teachers. For international activities, we work with youth and youth workers (18+) seeking international experience and skills development. We also provide free coaching for young people aged 13-30, supporting them in planning their future with awareness and confidence.
