Lýsing á verkefninu

The IFA will host 5 EVS volunteers during 5 months, from 1st of May until 30th of September. The EVS volunteers will be involved in all sorts of projects, often with different partners; these include the IFA itself but also local forestry associations that are based in most of the little towns of Iceland. The goal of the IFA and the other forestry associations in Iceland is to provide green recreational areas (open to anyone) and protecting the forest remains of Iceland. The project composes of various different outdoor activities, including; planting, path making/maintenance, basic wood/stone construction and light thinning. The team will consist of 5 volunteers and a forestry educated supervisor, who will work with and instruct the group in their work. Applicants should consider that the tasks will be physically demanding and the weather conditions can be challenging.

The EVS volunteers´ base camp is situated in Úlfljótsvatn. PARTICIPANTS SHOULD BE AWARE THAT THE BASE CAMP IS LOCATED IN THE COUNTRYSIDE AND NOT IN A CITY. It is to the south of the national park of “Þingvellir” and in the area of the famous "Golden circle" (including geysers, waterfall and beautiful nature area). The volunteer team will have a car specifically devoted to them. This means the team can be quite independent in many ways. The volunteers will drive for work purposes and will have the opportunity to use the car for their own needs (leisure, shopping...).

Eiginleikar sem óskað er eftir

Participants should first of all be interested in nature and physical outdoor work. Education on environmental matters, knowledge and experience in forestry can be beneficial. Good communication skills and a positive mind-set are vital, since the tasks are performed in a group. This project can include young people with fewer opportunities, however there is no adapted frame for physically and mentally disabled people. Once training completes participants need to be able to work and live on their own responsibility. The age range for this project is from 20 to 30 years old.
