Nová synagóga is an exhibition space for contemporary art and culture with international dimension. The exhibitions are supported by various accompanying programme for public and workshops for schools. The main activity of this EVS position will be working in Nová synagóga: preparing, installing, guarding, advertising and packing the exhibitions and other events (concerts, discussions, festivals, etc). Other activities depends on mutual discussion and individual volunteer's preferences and profile. He/she can develop own activity which fits with our programme, for example co-lecturing gallery programmes for schools. We are looking for a person who will actively look for new tasks and activities. Our NGO is also running the cultural centre Stanica since 2003 (10 min walking distance). Part of the volunteer's activities will take place here thanks to collaborations between staff members and other volunteers. This project is already approved.

We have two flats for the volunteers so you will live in a two room or three room flat and every volunteer has his own room. The flat is located in the broad center of Žilina, 85-thousand town located not far from mountains. This town is suitable for walking/biking, mass transportation not needed. There are good connexions with the rest of Slovakia, Czech republic and Poland. Each volunteer gets 300 eur monthly for food and pocket money. They can cook at their flat, the kitchen is fully equipped. The travelling costs are covered fully.

The volunteer for this project needs to have an interest in the art field - at least basic knowledge of contemporary art is more than welcome. We are looking for a person who is willing to work hard and learn more, with the team who will share their knowledge and purely practical experience from years of work in Nová synagóga and Stanica (the cultural centre from our organisation) They have Slovak lessons covered through out the year

Truc sphérique is NGO operating a cultural venue Stanica based in the building of still functioning train station and art space Nová synagóga in the former neologue synagogue in the city center.Main volunteering activities:
- production, preparation, installation and guarding of the exhibitions, communication with visitors, event management and general maintenance in Nová synagóga
- daily tasks related to operation of the culture center (ticket sales, posters distribution)
- manual, mental and office work included!
