Creatives Unite: Community COVID-19 Resource Platform
Last updated on Tuesday, 02/02/2021
It’s a challenging time for artists, creatives and people working in the cultural field who are generally more used to offline and face to face practices than online ones. How does the EU support creative industries during this pandemic?
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, many people working in the cultural and creative sector turned themselves towards social media and online spaces in order to keep promoting their artistic and creative business.
Between for instance interviews with museums curators or live music lessons played directly from their apartments, the flow of information became more prominent than usual and it got sometimes complicated to find interesting sources, to create a fruitful dialogue and to run into initiatives useful to develop one’s personal and professional development.
It is often true that cultural initiatives are lead by young people who, generally speaking, are more acquainted to technology and digital tools. This knowledge is extremely important during this period since most of the daily activities moved behind a screen.
In this context, on 5 May, the European Commission launched the Creatives Unite platform, a digital space which aims at gathering all initiatives and information related to the cultural and creative sectors in the EU in response to the COVID-19 crisis.
The platform is split into three main sections: Sector, Area and Action.
In the first one, you’ll find all different cultural fields: from music to festivals, from visual arts to videogames. By selecting “Area” you’ll have the chance to focus on European or international content, while by clicking on “Action” you’ll be invited to explore all different kinds of initiatives promoted on the platform, such as stories and good practices, surveys, tools or funding opportunities. All the activities and creative solutions come from different countries, this comes handy when looking for an inspiring idea to give new life to your cultural project.
It’s crucial to keep in mind that this is a collaborative initiative, everyone carrying a project or wanting to share information is more than welcome to upload its contribution.
You can share your input directly here.
