May 26 – Arrival:
Departure from Oslo in the morning by bus to Runde. This journey is included in the meetup. A detailed travel itinerary will be sent after confirmed registration.
Arrival at Runde, check-in, and evening meal.
May 27 – Exploration, Research, and Bird Mountain Excursion
"Scientist for a Day" – In spring and summer, Runde is a breeding ground for between 80,000 and 100,000 birds, with around 70,000 puffins making up the largest population. However, just 40–50 years ago, the situation was entirely different, with up to 500,000 birds on Runde. What has changed?
We will spend the day investigating this before heading up to the bird cliffs in the evening to watch the puffins swarm around their nesting area.
May 28 – Activities and Departure
Coasteering – experience the power of the ocean up close
Coasteering is an exhilarating adventure where you explore the rugged coastline by climbing, swimming, and jumping into the sea. With the right gear and guidance, you’ll navigate tidal pools, rocky shores, and crashing waves—getting a unique, hands-on experience of the coastal environment.
Lunch and continuation on activities / projects from the day before
Dinner before departure by night bus to Oslo.

About Runde and Runde Environmental Center
Runde is a small island on the west coast of Norway, known for its spectacular birdlife and dramatic coastal landscapes. It is home to Norway’s southernmost major seabird colony, where thousands of puffins, gannets, and other seabirds nest on the steep cliffs.
Runde Environmental Center is a hub for research, education, and sustainable tourism. The center works to increase knowledge about marine ecosystems and the impact of climate change on seabird populations. With modern facilities and a strong focus on conservation, it serves as a meeting point for scientists, students, and nature enthusiasts eager to explore and protect the rich biodiversity of the North Atlantic coast.
