European Week of Sport: let’s #BeActive!

Last updated on Thursday, 01/10/2020

Regardless of age, background or fitness level, sport is for everyone! And so is the European Week of Sport, one of the biggest sport initiatives in the world. Let’s #BeActive!

Why a European Week of Sport?

The European Week of Sport is an initiative of the European Commission to promote sport and physical activity across Europe under the motto #BeActive. It aims to bring awareness of how important an active lifestyle is for everyone and is designed to give people a springboard into being active!

Sport and physical activity contribute substantially to the health and wellbeing of European citizens, however the level of physical activity in Europe is currently stagnating and even declining in some countries. The European Week of Sport is a joint response to this challenge as well as a call for action.

Get ready for the next edition!

The European Week of Sport is held every year from 23-30 September, with thousands of events organised by hundreds of partners in the participating countries.

During the Week, you will have the chance to attend activities such as exercise programmes in parks, (school) tournaments, games, walks and bike tours, open days in sports clubs and much more. A great way to discover new sports, enjoy a more healthy lifestyle and have fun!

#BeActiveAtHome: stay home, stay active

To help Europeans exercise and remain physically active even under unprecedented circumstances, the European Commission launched a campaign to #BeActiveAtHome.
Thanks to the #BeActive community, we worked together during this extreme turn of events, using social media as a way to boost activity! By posting with the hashtag #BeActiveAtHome and mentioning @EUSport on Twitter and @european_youth_eu on Instagram, we showed what you are doing to stay fit (and have a little bit of fun in the bargain!).
