Contribute to the consultation on EU nature legislation

Atnaujinta Trečiadienis, 01/07/2026

The European Commission wants to hear your feedback on the stress test of the EU Birds and Habitats Directives. The deadline to contribute is 10 August.

Why are these directives important?

The EU Birds and Habitats Directives provide a strong legal framework to protect the most valuable and threatened biodiversity across the European Union. The two directives have also created the largest coordinated network of protected areas in the world, called Natura 2000

You can discover more about the directives in this booklet and in these two videos on the protection of wild species and the Natura 2000 protected area network

What's this stress test about?

The Commission is now conducting a stress test of the Birds and Habitats Directives, as part of its initiative on simplification. This process will:

  • assess whether these directives remain fit to achieve their objectives in a cost-efficient way.
  • identify opportunities to reduce costs and unnecessary administrative burden, while maintaining the directives’ high standard.
The Commission wants to hear from YOU!

It doesn't matter if you're a young citizen, professional, or organisation, as far as you're affected by or interested in EU policies for nature conservation - even if you’ve never engaged before!

Don't miss the chance to share your ideas thought this consultation until 10 August.

Share it also with your networks and make sure the voices of young people are heard loud and clear.
