On 13 September, President Ursula von der Leyen will deliver her 2023 State of the Union address.
The State of the Union (SOTEU) address is delivered to the European Parliament every year in September by the President of the European Commission.
This address takes a look at the achievements of the past year and presents the priorities for the coming year.
2022 was another year of unprecedent challenges. The EU has risen to the occasion once again by:
- Standing with Ukraine and taking major steps to hold Russia accountable;
- Boosting investment at home and abroad;
- Winning the energy war waged by Russia against Europe;
- Transforming our economy, by accelerating the green and digital transitions;
- Protecting the EU's core values of equality, inclusiveness and social fairness.
Moreover, President von der Leyen will outline how the Commission will approach the most pressing challenges facing the European Union and expose ideas to shape the future of the EU.
The speech will be followed by a plenary debate with members of the European Parliament.
