CENTRE EUROPEEN ROBERT SCHUMAN,ASSOCIATION

Centre européen Robert Schuman (CERS)

Scy-Chazelles, France

Description

‘L’Europe en jeux - Europe through games’ is a project focused on youth, (non-formal) education, on the ‘Idea of Europe’, the promotion of Robert Schuman’s ideas and solidarity. The mission is based in Scy-Chazelles, North-East of France, where the House-museum of Robert Schuman is located. We do aim at promoting solidarity as a value, mainly through volunteering, to enhance the engagement of young people as a mean to contribute to strengthening cohesion, solidarity, democracy and citizenship in Europe. Concretely, within the common framework of the educational service of CERS, the long-term volunteer will : -promote and facilitate pedagogical activities about Europe, which are playful and fun (we host approx. 5000 young people per school year in situ) -help run European projects (CERV, OFAJ, SNU, E+, ...) -be an ambassador of the ESC program among young people -be creative and help renew pedagogical resources.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteer will be accommodated in a residence/dorm in Metz (about 200,000 inhabitants), at around 10km from the office of the CERS. The volunteer will have his/her own fully-equipped small apartment with a kitchenette and a bathroom and will regularly meet people. It is highly important that the volunteer keeps it clean and in a good general state. The volunteer will receive a monthly allowance for food and pocket money. A monthly bus travel card and a train travel card will be provided to the volunteer.

Training during the activity

Quality is our main goal. To ensure it, the long-term project will include 4 training sessions: -pre-departure training (sessions about intercultural competences and crisis management), -on-arrival training (will last around 2 full weeks), -mid-term training, -final evaluation week.

Participant profile

Our volunteering project is open to any young person from the EU aged between 18 and 30. In general, we are looking for a volunteer who shows a sense of initiative, who is interested in Europe/the EU and political education, who is creative, has inter-personal skills, is open-minded, sociable and flexible. Speaking french and/or german would be a strong asset! We are also looking for somebody who is willing to do long-term volunteering.
