The daily life at this beautiful educational eco-farm is centred around educating a selective group of children that do not fit within the regular educational system. During this project, the volunteer will mainly focus on farm related support with the animals, in the organic garden, and with the children. Participants are encouraged to share their working knowledge, help facilitate meaningful activities, and develop projects based on their own interests. Activities include, among other things, common care for animals, gardening and harvesting veggies and fruit, maintenance of farm and land, educational activities with the children, and social activities within the village. The volunteer is stationed at the farm Hamster Mieden, which is located in the small village of Drogeham, on the countryside of the Northern province Friesland (Fryslân). Requirement: Volunteer applies for Certificate of Conduct (national equivalent)
Cazare, hrană și transport
Accommodation comprises a basic equipped private room within a farm stable, enabling to fully experience farm live. Facilities are shared and additional resources are present in the farmhouse utilities. Breakfast and dinner are individual with a budget, lunch is done together with the children and the host on working days. The close surroundings can be explored with bikes. A near bus stop connects you with a 30-min. bus ride to the Dutch railway network. Nearest cities: Leeuwarden & Groningen.
Formare pe durata activității
Upon arrival in the Netherlands volunteers will receive a training from the National Agency. They will receive further assistance from a local mentor. Regarding training for specific project activities, volunteers will be offered instructions on how to safely move around the farm, safety instructions related to manual labour on the farm, and regarding farm equipment; also thorough explanations, and supervision where needed. Furthermore, they will get Online Linguistic Support (OLS) to help with learning Dutch, and Youthpass will be used as a tool to help record their learning process.
Profilul participantului
You are interested in farming, working with animals, sustainable building, and children. You don't mind rolling up your sleeves and doing physical work. You take initiative and are able to work independently. You help where needed. You can express yourself in English. You can provide a Code of Conduct. Because you live on the farm into a small town, it is preferred that you enjoy the rural countryside lifestyle, have a passion for personal projects and can deal with groups of children. Open to couples or best friends.
