Welcome to work with intellectually disabled people at Lyhty ry's Media Workshop! The media workshop offers workshop activities on weekdays for 22 adults with intellectual disabilities. The daily operating time is between 8 am and 4 pm. The volunteer works 35 hours a week. The goal of the operation is to offer our customers a high-quality, stimulating and safe environment that enables meaningful activities in the field of media activities and the training of one's own skills in terms of both culture and social inclusion. In addition, we practice everyday skills and social skills during the rest of the activity. In the media workshop, you get to work with radio, videos, photography and social media in a comfortable and cheerful environment. The work community consists of media, social and health professionals, as well as adults from our workshops with intellectual disabilities. Our cozy offices are located in Alppila, Helsinki. Cazare, hrană și transport

Volunteer is accommodated in one of Lyhty’s housing buildings and will be sharing an apartment with other volunteers. Each volunteer has their own room. Volunteer gets food money 150e /month, pocket money 210e /month and from Monday till Friday lunch and dinner from Lyhty's kitchen. There is an entitlement to holidays for 2 days per month, altogether holidays days that can be taken after consulting with the Lyhty’s team. The monthly public transportation card to work is provided by Lyhty.

Formare pe durata activității

The volunteers will have a mentor working with him/her trough the year. Volunteers will meet other volunteers regularly and will have private meetings with the project coordinator depending on need of each volunteer. In the beginning of the year volunteer needs to do the hygienic card test for alimentation security. We provide organizations own first aid course as well as first aid guidance at workshop. During volunteering, the National office will arrange two mandatory camps together with other ESC volunteers who are in different projects in Finland.

Profilul participantului

Good social skills and motivation to work with people with special needs are important. The work can be dynamic at times and requires such mentality. It is important to have the motivation to learn Finnish language. Interest of media projects and/or music or such are considered an advantage. We are open to all participants but we prior participants with less opportunities meaning people who, for economic, social, cultural, geographical or health reasons, a migrant background, or for reasons such as disability and educational difficulties or for any other reasons have less opportunities.
