Description

To support the running and development of Cudham Environmental Activities Centres and the Biblins Youth Campsite and the offer it makes to children and young people. We hope that the Volunteer placements will contribute and have a lasting impact on the site, whether that is through developing and facilitating activities for other young people, the creation of art or helping to develop our online presence. The work is varied, enjoyable and people-centred, with lots of opportunities to develop the role in line with the interests and skills of the volunteer. There are some routine campsite warden tasks that the role includes these range from welcoming groups, site maintenance, admin tasks and ensuring the site is kept clean and tidy by our visitors.

Volunteers will live on site in our two bedroom bungalow at Cudham and our two bedroom cabin at Biblins. You will be expected to shop for and prepare your own meals. Both locations are rural and require a walk to bus routes, although have neighbouring cycle routes. A bicycle will be available for transport. Nearest train to Cudham is Orpington. Nearest train to Biblins is Hereford.

Training during the activity

There will be an initial orientation and introduction to the local area, transport routes and a structured induction to the campsite and our systems, Safeguarding and Health and Safety. Further training will be arranged depending on the needs of each volunteer (Outdoor skills, first aid, Forest Schools and bushcraft, website maintenance, use of tools etc.). There is the option to attend English classes weekly.

Participant profile

Volunteers who are excited about the prospect of working alongside other volunteers and with children and young people in a co-operative rural environment. Experience in youth work and outdoor education, as a participant or as a leader Passionate about engaging other children and young people with nature and outdoor education Committed to a collaborative approach to working Interested in the environment, sustainable lifestyles, nature and conservation. Positive about the aims of the Woodcraft Folk Eligible for ESC funding
