Description

The Aisling Project is an after-school initiative working in Ballymun. It was set up in 1997. Currently five projects, in various areas of Ballymun, working with more than 100 young people aged from 7 – 15 years. The Aisling project are to prevent early school leaving, benefit the community and advance education by running an after-school intervention project for children in need of support in their lives. This intervention provides purposeful activity in a caring, secure environment in an attempt to meet the young people’s developmental needs. The service provides a hot, nutritious dinner every day, homework supervision and a range of developmental activities. Our varied programme aims to allow for the interests, needs and learning of the various young people involved in the project.The project is committed to the social and personal development of each child and young person through activity based programmes.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Accommodation will be organised by the HO for all volunteers. Volunteer will be placed with host families or together in a house, this is dependent on availability at arrival date. Part of the volunteer’s monthly spend will cover the cost of transport, to and from work if applicable. Volunteers’ light lunch and dinner will be provided by the HO on the days that they are working. There is a small allowance in the for meals outside of this.

Participant profile

The Volunteer contribute their time, energy and enthusiasm towards the aims and objectives of the project activities. Should have some knowledge: interest and concerns of young people, issues that young people are passionate about, managing challenging behaviour. Skills in leadership, planning for action, change and group management is desirable.
