Berlin, Germany

Description

The volunteer will work in the Katharina-von-Bora-Haus, which is a residential project for people with disabilities run by the Stephanus Foundation. The Katharina-von-Bora-Haus offers diverse living and support opportunities for people with severe disabilities. There are six residential groups living in the KvB, with eight residents each. The residents are between 25 and 85 years old, but most of them are elderly people with severe physical and mental disabilities e.g. dementia, in need of a lot care. The volunteer will support the staff in one of the residential living groups. About eight mostly elderly residents live there together as independently as possible. The volunteer will assist them in situations where support is needed: offering and supporting leisure activities such as playing music or guidance when going shopping, but also helping in their daily activities such as getting up and getting dressed. The volunteer will not be working in the field of hygiene.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteer will be living in one apartment (2 rooms, kitchen, bathroom) in a shared apartment with other volunteers. Each volunteer will have a private room. The volunteer will receive 7 Euro/day as pocket money in monthly payments. The volunteer will be reimbursed for the costs of a public transport ticket (Deutschland Ticket 58€/month). The volunteer will receive a food fee of 333€/month. The volunteer will receive a financial contribution to his/her travel costs from his/her place of origin to Germany and back. The amount depends on the distance traveled.

Training during the activity

A mentor is responsible for answering any questions and supervising the volunteer's work and who speaks English. The volunteer can take part in the regular capacity training for staff members. He*she will participate in an On-Arrival Training and a Mid-Term Seminar.
