The Other Music Academy (OMA) is a multilayered empowerment center with international community arts projects and an open & diverse team (www.othermusicacademy.eu). We run a building in the small town of Weimar, considered one of Germany’s cultural capitals. During your ESC you'll have the opportunity to engage hands-on with all facets of cultural management in action. At first you will support and assist the planning and implementation of international youth exchange projects during our yearly festival Yiddish Summer Weimar (www.yiddishsummer.eu). After that in autumn you will join in on some of our sociocultural projects in Thuringia. You'll get to know the functioning of a German NGO and its operational and management approaches. Besides supporting the cultural management of our ongoing projects, you will also have the opportunity to work with our social media team. We are very curious about your ambitions and potentials!
Cazare, hrană și transport
You'll receive a monthly ticket for public regional transportation in Weimar and all of Germany (the so-called “Deutschland Ticket”), and if desired a bicycle for inner-city transportation (Weimar is a bicycle-friendly town). We will provide accommodation for you. You'll share a flat in Weimar with 1-2 other volunteer(s). Each volunteer will have their own room but share common areas (kitchen/bathroom). Money for food will be provided on a monthly basis (313 € / 10,43 € per day). Pocket money: will be provided on a monthly basis. It is 7 € per day.
Formare pe durata activității
You will receive support and information already before the start of your service. In Germany, you are going to participate in mandatory seminars (on arrival & mid term). This way we are ensuring that you can make the most of your time here and have the chance for ongoing personal development. At the OMA, you'll have a mentor, tutors and colleagues for help and advice. You'll also take part in biweekly team meetings and regular feedback sessions. Another person from within our organization will help you out with bureaucratic hurdles and problems that may occur in the working environment.

We welcome motivated, flexible, friendly, curious, driven, organized and self-confident volunteers with good communication skills and ideally a sense of humor. Good skills in written and spoken English are necessary. Basic to good knowledge of German might be useful, as we work a lot with local communities. It is very helpful for this position to have some basic skills with management and communication tools. Ideally, you have previous experiences with community or youth projects. We welcome volunteers from diverse backgrounds and aim for a work environment sensitive to discrimination. The OMA building ist still partially under construction and is not yet accessible for people with disabilities. Please feel free to reach out and discuss your needs with us. If need be, the start and end date of the project can be discussed.
