Innovation and creativity at Andage - Marche en Famenne

ASSOCIATION DES COMPAGNONS BATISSEURS

Andage ASBL

Marche-en-Famenne, Belgium

Description

The missions of the non-profit organization ANDAGE is to develop innovative projects and responses adapted to the needs of people with physical, mental or multiple disabilities, adults and children and their families. Andage proposes different activities, collective or not, within their services (workshops about carpentry, handcraft, gardening, music, sport) or outside (visits, excursions). It also runs the ‘Alter Boutique’, a swap place (shop) in the town of Marche-en-Famenne, where anyone can come and swap items, have a cup of coffee or admire the constantly displayed local artists exhibitions. Role of the volunteer: help in the swap shop; support the team to implement new projects; join and propose different workshops (art, cooking, gardening...). Meetings will be organised weekly to plan your tasks. You will also benefit from the support of a tutor.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Accomodation: The volunteers will have a private room in a fully-equipped shared house in the city of Marche-en-Famenne, with other ESC volunteers. The house is located in the city centre (on a short foot-distance from the workplace) and has all the modern facilities. Food: the volunteer will receive a monthly allowance and will take care of the meals by themself. Participation in the European Solidarity Corps is free of charge for the participant, except for exceptional contribution to travel costs. Freeboard and lodging + pocket money.

Training during the activity

With the French-speaking National Agency of Belgium: on-arrival and mid-term seminars. With the support organization in Belgium (Association des Compagnons Bâtisseurs asbl, "CBB"): residential weekends and networking activities with other ESC volunteers on other projects supported by CBB in the French-speaking part of Belgium. Upon request, volunteers can join French group classes (subject to availabilities at certain periods). Volunteers will also be trained on the appropriate gestures and behaviours to adopt with beneficiaries at the start of the activity.

Participant profile

We expect the volunteer to be motivated; be willing to discover and to learn; be open-minded to try new things; with sincere interest in our activities and in learning French (for better interactions with the beneficiaries); be interested in promoting solidarity in a community with the help of other ESC volunteers.
