Volunteer coordinator

VLUCHTELINGENWERK VLAANDEREN

Brussels, Belgium

Description

Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen is an NGO defending the rights of asylum seekers and refugees in Belgium. The selected participant will contribute to the Startpunt project, which provides socio-legal information to applicants for international protection. The Volunteer Coordinator will manage a team of around 40 volunteers. Tasks include monitoring volunteer needs, recruiting, selecting, and onboarding new volunteers, ensuring their well-being, and coordinating weekly planning, trainings, and administration. The Coordinator organises teambuilding and learning activities to strengthen motivation and team cohesion, and actively participates in field activities at the registration centre, Immigration Office, and Legal Helpdesk. They provide legal information to asylum seekers, coordinate follow-ups, collect data, prepare situation reports, and stay informed about developments in asylum and migration law to translate this knowledge into practical trainings and updated tools.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteer will receive a monthly payment (€1095,00) for organisational support, covering accommodation and food expenses, and a monthly amount of €182,50 for individual expenses. The volunteer can choose their own accommodation; many choose to stay in Brussels. Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen will support the volunteer in finding appropriate accommodation by providing relevant sources (websites, social media groups…) where accommodation is published Home-to-office travel will be paid; the office is situated just a 5-minute subway ride away from the historical centre of Brussels.

Training during the activity

At the start, intercultural training will be part of the training organised by JINT. Intercultural encounters being essential in the project, it will remain a subject in feedback sessions and evaluations. Internal training is being periodically set up to keep staff and volunteers steady on track with these regulations. Every new staff member and volunteers receive an introduction training and folder with essential information on the organization (mission, vision, workplace rules...) More training can be provided and organised by Vluchtelingenwerk or external organisations during the year.
