Community Engagement, Women’s Empowerment & Sustainable Livelihoods in Togo

Stichting Ecosystem Restoration Foundation

Association de développement à but non lucratif

Kpalime, Togo

Descrição

This volunteer project, implemented with AJEVES, supports rural communities through women’s empowerment, cultural exchange, and sustainable local development. Volunteers work with women’s groups on regenerative agriculture, basic permaculture, beekeeping, and small-scale financial skills to strengthen economic resilience. The project also promotes community well-being through public health and hygiene (WASH) activities, including safe water practices, hygiene awareness, and waste management, with possible visits to schools, health centres, and community hubs. Cultural immersion is central: volunteers take part in daily village life, community events, traditional ceremonies, and meetings with local stakeholders. Working hours are generally 8:00–12:00 and 14:30–17:30, but flexibility is required to accommodate community needs. The experience offers meaningful engagement in gender equality and local development while providing deep exposure to Togolese culture.

Comparticipação nas despesas de alojamento, alimentação e transporte

Volunteers are hosted in safe shared flats. Single rooms may be available for individual volunteers, but cannot be guaranteed. Basic amenities include electricity, running water, and internet via SIM card. Meals are provided, and dietary requirements can be communicated in advance. The diet will be healthy and balanced, but in line with local products' availability. The project site is mostly within walking distance; when needed, AJEVES will arrange local transport (taxis and moto-taxis, helmets provided). Activities include cultural visits, traditional events, and local market trips.

Formação durante a atividade

AJEVES offers an orientation on local culture, safety, and community expectations. Volunteers receive introductory training on key project topics such as health & sanitation, regenerative agriculture, and beekeeping, with an emphasis on practical, hands-on learning. Training typically lasts 1–2 weeks. Throughout the placement, AJEVES staff mentor volunteers to ensure they feel supported and prepared. Free psychosocial support at the local hospital is available throughout the stay. AJEVES also organizes stakeholder visits to strengthen collaboration and ensure long-term impact.
