Volunteer opportunity in coaching and counselling work JYVÄSKYLÄ

Valo-Valmennusyhdistys ry

Jyväskylä, Finland

Description

Would you like to support people on their journey toward a more meaningful life? As a volunteer, you’ll work alongside trained professionals and peer experts in various coaching and guidance tasks. Valo is a national association promoting access to learning, employment, wellbeing, and participation. You’ll work with young people and adults who may be experiencing social isolation, gaps in education, mental health challenges, or long-term unemployment. They benefit from patient support, encouragement, and steady routines as they build confidence and new skills. As a volunteer, you’ll help plan, carry out, and evaluate activities based on your interests. Our services support individuals seeking direction in life, offering coaching and personal assistance. The volunteering period is 12 months. Please fill in the application and additionally motivation letter/questionnaire through this link: https://forms.office.com/e/sSN1hhbEee

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Valo is the coordinating organisation in charge of all logistical matters. Volunteers will be provided with accommodation in Jyväskylä, either shared or private depending on availability. As an ESC volunteer, you will receive health insurance and monthly pocket money. Meals are covered by the ESC program. Travel costs will be reimbursed based on the travel distance. We aim to ensure a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for participants.

Training during the activity

Volunteers will receive orientation and continuous support throughout the volunteering period. You’ll train your youth work and coaching skills and regularly reflect on your learning with a mentor. You’ll also take part in on-arrival and midterm trainings organized by the National Agency. On-the-job learning includes youth work methods, communication and social media skills, creative and artistic approaches, nature-based and outdoor activities, as well as games and digital tools.

Participant profile

We welcome young people aged 18–30 from all backgrounds, including those with fewer opportunities. We’re looking for someone who is motivated, empathetic, open-minded, and willing to learn. No previous experience is needed, just a desire to help others and grow personally. We especially encourage applicants who have: • skills or interest in creative work, arts, or crafts • enthusiasm for nature, physical activity, or outdoor trips • interest or experience in games and digital tools
