Description

YouFuture, Protect your future with disaster awareness, is a Volunteering Teams in High Priority Areas project, funded by the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) Programme. It is organized by the Portuguese Red Cross in Oliveira de Azeméis (is a small rural city with an area of 161,10 Km2 and 66 175 habitants. It is located 40 Km away from Aveiro and 50 Km from Porto. Oliveira de Azeméis belongs to the District of Aveiro. It is also part of Porto Metropolitan area). Activities that the group of volunteers will carry out include: activities & workshops for local children and youth on First Aid and disaster awareness, organize Cultural Day for international volunteers, Trainings and Field visits to Disaster & Emergency preparedness institutions, Dissemination, communication and visibility of the volunteering activities.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

All volunteers share an apartment equipped with basic appliances, furniture, towels & bed linen, water, gas, electricity and Wi-Fi Bedrooms and bathrooms are shared. Each bedroom will be allocated to 2 or 3 volunteers - it is not possible to have a single bedroom. Volunteers will receive pocket money of 6€ and food allowance of 4€ (per day); The payment will be made to the volunteers at the beginning of the project, preferably by bank transfer. Volunteers will be reimbursed the amount they spent on Travel to and from the Project.

Participant profile

We are looking for young people aged from 18-30 years old, practical, “hands on” people who like to get their “hands dirty” and helping in what is needed. Volunteers should be open minded and adaptable to new context (languages and cultures) and the challenging surroundings Volunteers should be willing to learn from others, work in a team and try new things. Priority given to candidates with some level of Portuguese language proficiency.
