STICHTING INTERNATIONALE WERKKAMPEN
Drogeham, Netherlands
Description
Daily life on this eco-farm is focused on a small group of children who do not fit in the regular school system because of behavioral and adaptation challenges. As a volunteer, you help support their development and reintegration by working together on the farm. Your tasks include taking care of animals, working in the organic garden, harvesting fruit and vegetables, and helping with general farm maintenance. All these tasks are being done together with the children. You also support and create simple educational and social activities with the children. The farm is in a small, quiet village in the countryside of Friesland. It is quite remote, but very beautiful. Working here is a special and meaningful experience. Requirement: a Certificate of Conduct (or national equivalent) is required.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
You will stay in a small chalet on the farm. You will have simple private bedroom for yourself, and share the living room, kitchen, and bathroom with one other person. You can also use some facilities in the farmhouse. You will get budget to cook for yourself. On working days, you can have lunch together with the children and the host. The farm is quite remote, but you can use a bike to explore the area. There is a bus stop nearby. From there, it takes about 30 minutes by bus to reach the Dutch train network. The nearest big cities are Leeuwarden and Groningen.
Training during the activity
After arrival in the Netherlands, volunteers will take part in two trainings from the National Agency. They will also get support from a local mentor. Youthpass will be used to help volunteers reflect on what they learn during the project. For the project, volunteers will receive clear instructions about working safely on the farm, including how to use tools and equipment. They will also get guidance and supervision when needed. In addition, this project offers you Dutch classes by a Dutch teacher every Wednesday morning.
