Volunteer at a German High School
Jugendwerk der AWO Wuerttemberg e.V.
Gymnasium Salvatorkolleg
Bad Wurzach, Germany
Description
Salvatorkolleg High School is a welcoming place where students are encouraged to grow into responsible and curious young adults. Since 2009, international volunteers have been an important part of school life, bringing new perspectives and enriching the community. As an ESC volunteer, you will live in the German countryside and work at the school together with another volunteer. You’ll get an authentic behind-the-scenes look at everyday life in a German high school and can take part in a wide range of activities, from creative workshops in art or music to supporting language learning, sports lessons, administrative tasks, or helping out in the school library. The work depends on your own initiative and interests. The Salvatorkolleg team is always open to fresh ideas and will support you in bringing your own project to life. Although the school is located in a rural area, you will still have the opportunity to connect with other ESC volunteers through the coordinating organization.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The two ESC volunteers share a flat in Bad Wurzach, in walking distance of the school. They receive money to buy their own food. The volunteers also receive a “Deutschland Ticket” which can be used on local and regional public transport across Germany. Please be aware that Bad Wurzach is a rural town. There are no bus connections to other bigger towns between midnight and 5 a.m.
Training during the activity
The volunteers will take part in the arrival and midterm Seminar of the German National agency. A German course depending on the level of the volunteer can also be arranged. If you are interested, you can also be part of trainings to become a youth leader at the coordinating organisation.
Participant profile
We are looking for volunteers who are open to living in a small village and experiencing rural Germany. You will be warmly welcomed by the school community and supported by an amazing coordinator. Teamwork is essential, as you will work closely with another volunteer and with students and teachers of the school. A basic knowledge of German (A2) is helpful. We value creativity and initiative: new ideas and projects are encouraged, and you will have support to bring them to life. If you are motivated, flexible, and eager to make an impact, this is the perfect opportunity to grow personally while contributing to an intercultural school environment.
