Join a 180-day European Solidarity Corps Humanitarian Aid volunteering activity at the Assalam Community Foundation eco-village in Zanzibar, Tanzania!
Assalam works in education, women’s empowerment, social entrepreneurship and sustainable community development. Volunteers rotate between departments and work alongside local staff.
Activities may include:

  • social media and communication;
  • supporting teachers and educational initiatives;
  • supporting vulnerable families and community projects;
  • assisting with workshops, events and local activities;
  • organic farming and sustainability;
  • contributing to everyday life in the eco-village.

Tasks vary depending on community needs, weather and ongoing projects.

Beitrag zu Unterbringung, Verpflegung und Reisekosten
  • Accommodation is provided in a safe and peaceful environment within the eco-village. Electricity and Wi-Fi are provided where available.
  • Volunteers share a bathroom, with hot and cold water available.
  • Meals are provided according to the programme arrangements.
  • Volunteers are encouraged to participate in community life and contribute to maintaining shared spaces.
  • Travel costs are fully covered.
  • Eligible visa, insurance and vaccination costs are covered.
  • Volunteers receive pocket money of €495 per month (€16.50 per day).
Fortbildung im Rahmen der Tätigkeit

Volunteers work alongside local staff. Tasks vary depending on community needs, weather conditions and ongoing projects. Guidance on community rules, training, supervision and regular support are provided throughout the placement.

  • Volunteers take part in reflections and YouthPass competences recognition.
  • Swahili language classes are provided.
  • Volunteers receive guidance and support throughout the placement.
Teilnehmerprofil

Eligibility: Candidates must be 18 to 35 years old and be citizens or legal residents of an EU Member State, North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Türkiye. Candidates must have completed the compulsory Humanitarian Aid Volunteering training and must not have previously participated in individual Humanitarian Aid Volunteering. When adding together this new volunteering opportunity and any previous participation in EU volunteering programmes, the total duration cannot exceed 12 months.

No specific professional degree is required. Motivation, openness, flexibility and a willingness to learn are the most important qualities.

  • Responsible and motivated to contribute, learn and face possible challenges.
  • With a good working knowledge of English.
