Communication, Advocacy and Human Rights Support in Lima

APRODEH is a Peruvian human rights organization working through its offices in Lima, Ayacucho, Apurímac and Huancavelica. The organization promotes and defends human rights through strategic litigation, community empowerment and advocacy, focusing on gender equality, historical memory, agroecology, and the rights of victims of political violence. The volunteer will support for 3 months the implementation of communication and advocacy strategies aimed at promoting and defending human rights, with a particular focus on victims of past and present political violence. Main tasks include contributing to the evaluation  of communication and advocacy strategies, producing communication materials, and supporting advocacy initiatives in collaboration with national human rights networks and partner organizations. The volunteer will also assist in organizing both online and in-person events, workshops and campaigns that raise awareness and encourage public reflection on key human rights issues.

Apgyvendinimas, maitinimas ir transportas

The volunteer will receive a monthly allowance to cover food, local transportation and communication expenses. Due to the city's challenging transportation system, efforts will be made to arrange accommodation close to the office or in an area with easy access to the workplace. Accommodation will be selected in accordance with all European Solidarity Corps (ESC) requirements. A tutor and the programme coordinator will provide ongoing support and assistance in addressing any unforeseen situations during the placement. In addition, the volunteer will be covered by health insurance.

Mokymas veiklos laikotarpiu

The volunteer’s induction will include information on health/safety procedures, working hours, leave entitlements, the recovery of working time when applicable, and key aspects of the local culture. The volunteer will also receive guidance on cultural activities and places of interest in Lima and nearby regions. Based on their interests and learning goals, the volunteer will be supported in identifying relevant training opportunities and courses. If needed, additional Spanish language classes may also be arranged to facilitate their integration and participation in daily activities.

Dalyvio profilis

Candidates must be between 18 and 35 years old, reside in one of the eligible countries (EU Member States, North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Türkiye), have completed the mandatory Humanitarian Aid Volunteering training, and must not have previously participated in an individual humanitarian aid volunteering project. The combined duration of this opportunity and any previous participation in EU volunteering programmes must not exceed 12 months.

• Degree or background in Communication for Development, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
• Knowledge of and/or experience in social and political advocacy is highly desirable.
• Interest in and/or knowledge of Peru and Latin America would be an asset.
• Intermediate level of Spanish.
• Strong motivation to contribute to human rights, social justice and advocacy initiatives.
