Volunteering in Animal Care Shelter

Descriere

Founded in 2005, Vita da cani is an animal welfare organisation that runs several projects across the Lombardy region. In 2006, it opened a 40,000-square-metre animal park in Magnago, home to the Porcikomodi Sanctuary. The Porcikomodi project rescues animals, mostly farm animals, from slaughter and raises awareness about their protection. More than 200 animals live here, and every one of them has a name. Many are elderly, disabled or recovering, so they need daily care and attention. ESC volunteers join the team in looking after the animals and the sanctuary, and they’re trained and supervised from the very start.

Cazare, hrană și transport

The volunteers will share a DOUBLE room in the simple apartment. Volunteer will receive 6 euros per day as pocket money, and 160 euros per month for food. Inside the sanctuary we ask you to eat only vegan food, but outside of the sanctuary the volunteers will be free to eat whatever they want. Please note, that location of house and sanctuary is in a SMALL TOWN, at least 1 hour away from big city.

Formare pe durata activității

Volunteers will have On Arrival Training from the National Agency. They will receive task-specific training related to animal care, security and hygiene in the sancturay and communication tasks.

• Available for the WHOLE duration of the project: 8/01/2027 – 31/05/2027.
• Great love for animals, especially farm animals, and the ability to approach them with care and patience.
• Ready to care for animals with special needs (elderly, disabled, or in need of daily medication).
• Ready to “get your hands dirty” and have morning shifts (from 09:00).
• Able to do heavy physical tasks outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Open-minded and comfortable sharing a flat and a double room with other volunteer.
• Preferably sharing the organisation’s values (antispeciesism, a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle), or willing to adapt to them. Only vegan food is allowed inside the sanctuary.
• A background in veterinary studies, biology or related fields, or experience in shelters, pet-sitting or caring for animals at home, is a plus.
• Knowledge of social media is a plus.
• Motivated to learn Italian.
