Spalene Porici, CZ: Life with apples, coffee and books - 8 weeks

Descrierea activității

The aim is to apply the international volunteer in the operations of the Spálené Poříčí Community Centre and Library and to engage more socially excluded groups. We also wish to initiate pilot activities for these groups as well as to bring higher dynamics and overlay to current activities. The aim is to offer in the community centre activities that would lead to engagement of persons who are socially excluded or are at-risk. These especially refer to seniors, socially excluded youth in villages with no accessible institutions or engaging social services, persons at risk of social exclusion based on their lower social-economic status. We are planning to host two volunteers in this project, for two different positions: in the library and the community cafe. They will assist with the day-to-day operation of the locations. Note this is not employment. Note the duration of 8 weeks. Check if you need visa for the stay.

Cazare, hrană și transport

The volunteers will share a council flat, located in the centre of the town. Each will have a private room, with a shared kitchen and facilities. No driving licence required as the library is located literally 100 steps from the flat; activities in the community will include our own transportation. Lunches will be provided in the school canteen free of charge, vouchers for breakfast and dinner will be provided. For travels in free time, there is bus service that connects to the city of Pilsen and to the national railway network.

Formare pe durata activității

The volunteer will be familiarised with the tasks at hand on the respective sites: 1. Library - assistance in preparation of venue for learning activities, 2. Apples - operations related to the apple press and community cafe. Collaboration with the coordinator and mentor will be facilitated throughout the stay.

Profilul participantului

We will accept volunteers from all program countries. Your primary working language will be English. You will be free to learn basic Czech, but no official training will be offered. We expect you to be proactive with dedication to teach and learn something new, a person who is motivated, open to discussion, autonomous, trying to explore their boundaries, and reflect on their surroundings. Additional mentoring will be provided to people with social obstacles, educational difficulties, long unemployment history, cultural differences.
