Wat houdt de activiteit in?

Carlisle Youth Zone http://www.carlisleyouthzone.org is a large regional provider of youth activities and services - "a safe and fun environment where the potential of young people is developed and fulfilled." This long term EVS is suitable for any young person interested in youth and community work, non formal education, or the NGO sector in general. You will be working with CYZ team leaders to provide innovative and challenging activities to build social and emotional skills of young people. Volunteer duties may general youth work (e.g. sport, music, drama, dance and arts and crafts), marketing and communications, social media output, membership, market research, fundraising, or general administrative support to the team. Learning opportunities will be numerous and varied. You will improve your language skills. You will be involved in local cultural life, with the chance to meet other young people in Carlisle, and the possibility to travel around both England and Scotland.

Regelingen voor accommodatie, eten, en vervoer

Volunteers will live together in rented accommodation within easy reach of Carlisle city centre. Accommodation will be in single rooms wherever possible, but in some cases rooms may be shared. There are a number of other EVS volunteers on other Momentum World projects in the Cumbria region, so you will have the chance of a fun and varied social life. Accommodation is self-catering, and you will be paid a monthly allowance of £200 for food plus £120 pocket money. Carlisle is on the mainline railway to London and Glasgow, with rail and bus links to many other places.

Wat leer je?

You will be given a general introductory training by Momentum World (coordinating organisation). Carlisle Youth Zone (host organisation) will then provide full induction training. You will be working with highly experienced staff and so you can expect to be given continuous training, mentoring and support throughout your EVS. In addition, you will attend on-arrival and mid-term training provided by the UK National Agency. You will have a personal development plan, linked to Youthpass.

Wie zoeken we?

We are looking for highly motivated young people with an interest in youth and community work. You do not need qualifications but you should have some experience of working or volunteering in youth organisations or projects. Creative, administrative and social media skills will be an advantage. You must have an interest in other cultures, be adaptable, and be ready to live for a year away from home. You should speak English at intermediate level and be ready to learn quickly. Preference will be given to young people who have not had international opportunities before.
