Beschrijving van de organisatie

Geoclube - Youth Association was founded in 1999 by a group of students from the school town (Gondomar), along with some teachers.

Our main target are young people between 12 and 30 years old from all kind of backgrounds, with a commun interest for Science, Nature and also Adventure.

Our association works with environmental protection and knowledge about Nature in Portugal and around Europe. We have regular activities like campings, travels around nature with walks and also some cultural activities like traditional games, typical agricultural traditions, celebration of Day of European Union and Mineral and Fossil Fair.

We participate in Training Courses, Partnership Building Activities and in Youth Exchanges. We are also part of two international networks: TDM2000 International and IDA - International Development Alliance.

We are an organization with around 50 associated persons, but the main group are around 7 people that are working in a volunteer basis, helping in the activities we organize, and a one internee that works full time in our office.

Our motivation for EVS is related with the fact that we consider that EVS is a way to obtain new experiences and to enlarge our knowledge in the cultural and social fields.

As a Host Organization, our goal is that all the volunteers create good activities with the youngsters and help the organization to obtain knowledge of new methodologies. The volunteers could offer their experiences and could learn more things that are useful. These exchanges will open doors for a cultural and social knowledge between the volunteers and the Organization and this brings the necessary motivation for developing the EVS projects.

As a hosting organization, we are responsible for the well-being of the volunteers, regarding accommodations, food, work environment, and any other issue. We will certainly take in consideration all the needs of the volunteers.
