Organizācijas apraksts:

AFS is one of the oldest youth organisations world-wide, founded as a volunteer ambulance service in 1914. The ambulance drivers initiated youth exchange activities after the first world war, starting with scholarships for university students. After the second world war AFS decided to arrange the exchange of younger participants and started secondary school-based exchange programmes. Today there are independent AFS organisations in 60 countries all over the world and their main activities include these secondary school-based exchange of students ranging from age 16 to 18 who stay abroad for one year or less. In addition some AFS organisations offer “Community Service Programmes” which are really similar to the EVS programme. These activities are organised by volunteers that form local chapters and regional/national working groups. AFS Intercultura Portugal is member of the international (AFS Intercultural Programs) and European (EFIL) networks.
