descrierea organizației

Borostyan Foundation was established in 1997 with the aim of supporting the young mother and small children without a family. The Foundation runs a shelter home which was opened in 2008. Borostyánvirág shelter home provides a temporary housing for families, but it hosts only mom and small children from over the country. There are 11 living rooms where we can accommodate up to 34 people simultaneously. So far nearly 1900 people were host here. The institution operates in a property owned by the Kaposvár County Council which is used by the institution rent-free. Families can voluntarily apply for their admission to the head of the institution personally, by telephone or by mail. The reason for applying can be a financial problem (livelihood difficulties, poor housing conditions, termination of a sublet), conflict, domestic violence, illness, secret pregnancy, and others.
Generally, more and more problems arise in the family at a time. In a temporary institution, single-parent families may stay on average 12 months. During this period, children receive full care (meals, schooling costs, clothing, recreational activities ), and adults are provided with support. The residents receive continuous personal help in order to start their out-ofshelter life as early as possible.
From 2005 our shelter is involved in a model programme, we are a host place for single moms who are victims of domestic violence. In the so-called crisis care, we work with different methods as in shelter home. The victims of the domestic violence spend 4-8 weeks and they participate in crisis management programme for free. Our programme is designed to deal with acute crises and provide adequate psychological, mental, legal, financial and personal sustainability and safe housing. Crisis management is integrated within the institution. In this way, the abusers can also benefit from the help of those who live in a temporary home, apart from the support of professionals.
In November 2012 our community garden programme had been started. Our clients can join on voluntary base to the programme and the vegetable and fruits grown in the garden are shared among the clients. Most of the operational costs are supported by state aid. In addition, the funds and municipal support contribute to the costs. Individuals and other supporters usually donate too.
Within the framework of the Safe Shelter program, the development was started in 2017, as a result of which the South Transdanubia Regional Crisis Ambulance Clinic was opened in early 2018, the primary purpose of which is to provide advice to victims of domestic violence and professionals dealing with the problem. In addition to counseling, the low-threshold service also places a strong emphasis on prevention and education.
In the spring of 2018, the foundation also successfully applied for the opening of a Safe Point Help Center under the Safe Harbor program. The center aims to provide complex assistance to the most vulnerable victims of relationship violence in an undercover facility.
Most of the resources required for the operation of the Foundation are state subsidies, in addition to which local government subsidies, tender funds and donations contribute to the operation. The organization also receives a significant amount of in-kind donations from individuals and other donors, some of which we use to care for families living in the institutions we operate, while the portion we can’t utilize is sold in the donation store opened in 2018. The foundation returns 100% of the shop's revenue to the operation of the Amber Flower Mother's Home.
The staff of the organization is highly motivated to provide professional support to families in need. In recent years the governmental support was decreased and donations and funds can help us to deliver our services with high quality. We would like to add intercultural dimension to our activities, and spreading the philosophy of volunteering together with foreign volunteers and involve Hungarian youth in our activities. ESC volunteers make the everyday life of their mothers and children more colourful, broaden their horizons and broaden their worldview.
