A szervezet leírása

Association for Human Rights and Active Citizenship PaRiter (Association PaRiter) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that promotes human rights, culture of non-violence, tolerance, minority rights and gender equality by linking non-formal education, research and activism.
Association PaRiter was named after the Latin word “pariter” which means equally. PaRiter was founded in 2014. in Rijeka with the aim of raising awareness to human rights, women rights but also to promote civic activism. In the first place we want to raise awareness of public and citizens about human rights violations that happen to minority groups and people with fewer opportunities on daily bases. Our mission also includes the recognition and understanding of the general and specific women’s rights, working on the strengthening of the women’s movement and producing equal conditions for them on every level of the public, political and economic life.
Our goal is to educate, inform and raise awareness of the issue of human rights, both at the local and national, regional and global level, through projects, workshops, civic action, and examples of good practice from other cities and countries. Another purpose is to encourage citizens to become actively involved in “fight” for their and others’ human and citizens’ rights. To manage this we are planning and have already been conducting bunch of activist interventions in public space with the intention of providing citizens with new knowledge but also to encourage them to critically reflect on the society in which we all live. We marked National and International day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women by two activist actions in a row called Every third women „falls“ down the stairs and we organized protest where we demanded ratification of Istanbul convention from our government. We annually mark V-day by organising One Billion Rising event. On the International Women’s Day we organised night guerrilla activist action where we ”renamed” about 150 street signs after significant women throughout history using A4 or A5 paper as a reminder that even though our country elected its first female president, much remains to be done in terms of women’s rights.
One of our most popular projects is the Human Libraries. The concept of it is about offering people like books, which, typically, have titles that aim to represent a stigmatized or stereotyped group of persons in the community. Our libraries include titles like Roma people, migrants or assailants, different races, people of various nationalities and religious beliefs and other members of the community who are exposed to general misconceptions, stigma, stereotyping and or prejudice.
PaRiter is paying special attention to the upbringing, educating and informing the younger generations to become conscious of their roles and obligations in society which they live in. To achieve that we organized school workshops where we taught kids how to recognize discrimination, what means equal payment for equal work, who to contact if they feel they or someone close to them is discriminated, what are stereotypes and what tolerance means. Furthermore, we organized workshops on human rights and women rights, sexism and gender based violence for students in one dorm in Rijeka that was followed by workshops on media and filming. We educated the students on human and specifically women’s rights, while our partner organisation taught them how to film a movie that takes different forms of human rights violations.
We are relatively young association but our members have a lot of experience in activism, volunteering and working in different NGOs and most important we are full of enthusiasm.
