Beskrivelse af organisationen

The Lodge Trust was started in 1984 to provide support for men and women with learning disabilities. Learning Disabilities include people with Down Syndrome, Autism, Aspergus, Brain Damage and Prada Willi Syndrome. There are 30 people who live at the Lodge Trust supported in 4 homes and 9 flats. The residents are all individuals with different gifts and abilities. Therefore, each person is encouraged to reach their full potential in their home, work and in the community. The residents’ ages range from 18years to 85years. The aim of the home is to provide individual support for the residents, supporting them in their faith and to help them live their lives.
The Lodge community also has a day service offering workshop facilities for carpentry, crafts and catering. Horticulture and household duties are included in other work activities for residents. The daily work programmes are designed to afford the residents realistic opportunities where their skills can be utilised and developed. They are enabled to make a real contribution that is needed and valued. Some work is quite specialised and singular, whereas other residents prefer a more varied programme and choose a mixture of tasks from the available options. Residents, therefore, gain the satisfaction of providing a vital local service such as mowing the lawns, or creating end products that are commercially viable, by merit of their own efforts. Where appropriate, further education is provided through college attendance, though the work situation is also used to extend numeracy and literacy in practical settings.
The Lodge Trust has opened part of its grounds to the public. Residents help to run the Country café, serving drinks and meals to the public. It also has a caravan site and log cabins for people to come and stay in.
