Opera Don Bonifacio Azione Verde is a voluntary and non profit humanitarian organization established in Italy in 2002. It is regularly registered as a Voluntary Organization and recognised as an NGO for international cooperation by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. In different places we have repeated the mission of our organization which is the intention of the founder of our organization: to promote human development all over the world through training, formation and education of children and the young people and to make them protagonists of their own societies where they can meaningfully and democratically make changes for positive development. Our projects in Nigeria are: • The realization of “Azione Verde University of Science and Information Technology” in Amaigbo, Imo State Nigeria, a multi-purpose centre (schools, accommodations, Church, Clinic, library, sports centre,) that will be home for many children and youth;• The Journey of Hope, a mission to Nigeria which promotes cultural exchanges, putting together people from different regions of Italy and from different countries and in a particular those who are interested in living experience with people of different nationalities;• Collective adoption and sponsorships to more than 500 children and youth with fewer opportunities in Nigeria aimed to provide first needs and scholarships for different grade of education;• Promotion of scholarships and traineeships for working and training experiences exchanges for Nigerian students in Europe to help acquire professionalism to be able to transfer their knowledge to their brothers in Nigeria at the end of their education abroad.;• Microcredit program for women, an empowerment program to help women financially through microfinance activities by engaging themselves meaningfully in small scale business activitiesThanks to the constant works of the participants and the active participation of the youth, Azione Verde is able every year to organise several events and manifestations within and outside the national territory where we have branches and members with the aim of raising funds to sustain the projects we have in Nigeria. These fundraisers are always accompanied by information campaigns to create awareness, education and other solicitations for solidarity, knowledge and to evaluate other methods of action. The youth and schools are targets because they are more prone to voluntary activities. Periodically the new magazine “Opera Don Bonifacio Azione Verde- News” is published to inform the benefactors of the goings on of the organization in Nigeria. Other instruments of information and awareness creation include the first book of the organization, the Christmas and Easter good wishes Cards, toys for solidarity and the annual calendar which tells the story of the result of the achievements of the Organisation in pictures taken by the participants during the mission. Again, during the year, there are different expositions in different cities where we have branches to increase the number of benefactors, create awareness and acquire solidarity. TARGET GROUPThe principal beneficiaries of the activities of the organization are mainly children and the youth in accordance with the founding philosophy of the organization that children are the “hope of poor nations and the future of humanity”. Again particular attention is given to the women, the aged and the sick who are the weakest part of the society. The mission of the organization does not end only in Nigeria. It is realised everywhere where there is the need. Major part of the volunteers are the youth, often people who live alone or in difficulty who through their voluntary experiences enrich their world and start appreciating the value of other cultures, find new friendship, acquire new courage and begin to give new meaning to their lives.The action and fruits of the mission is seen also in the live of the participant/ missionary who becomes a beneficiary himself. Seeing the interaction between the youth from Europe and their Nigerian counterparts is for us a pointer to a future full of hope. In this way, Azione Verde is creating a social network that has produced strong links putting together different people from different parts of the world and making them participants in a common project.
