The 'Landesjugendwerk der Arbeiterwohlfahrt Thüringen' (following ‘LJW’) is an independent children's and youth association. Our roof organisation ‘Arbeiterwohlfahrt’ AWO (workers welfare) is one of the six biggest welfare organisations in Germany. The LJW consists of a committee board (our young volunteers), a full-time office and working groups (Arbeitskreise) for non-formal learning, for group leaders, for organising summer camps and for running creative activities for youngsters. The participation in our organisation and all connecting decision-making processes in the youth association is free to anyone who recognizes our guiding principles, our statutes, and is not yet 30 years old. The LJW organizes itself democratically from the bottom up. This means that the children, adolescents and young adults in the association determine what is done in the youth work. For example the members of our local branches elect the committee board every other year. The LJW offers young people the opportunity to implement their common interests with the help of LJW. We see ourselves as political and pedagogical actors. We are committed to enable all people to live in a democratic society, a society in which everyone can shape his/her own life and receive the support of the other. We are standing up for the rights of children and young people.
Who we are:

- committed to the values of freedom, equality, solidarity, justice, tolerance and empancipation
- coordinating organisation for our member organisations in the region of Thuringia, so called ‘Ortsjugendwerke’ (OJW)

What we do and offer:
- non-formal learning in the form of in-house workshops; requested by youth centres or schools (e.g. on respect, discrimination, cultural diversity & identity)
- trainings on youth-specific topics for full-time and voluntary employees in youth work
- international youth exchanges and trainings
- youth group leader training (JuLeiCa), where young people can learn methods how to work with groups of young people
- summer camps
- coordinate and support volunteers in Thuringia and in Europe
- counsel (youth and youth worker) and coordinating the work of our organisation
- represent our youth organisation to the public (working in political committees)
- youth policy representation and networking of the association at the national level (within AWO structures)
All these activities are possible working fields for the volunteer who will work in our organisation. The focus will be on non-formal learning activities at regional and international level. As a regional association we support and supervise eleven self-determined Jugendwerk-branches throughout Thuringia, which are smaller youth associations. The young members take care of all the responsibilities.

Das Landesjugendwerk (LJW) ist ein eigenständige Kinder- und Jugendverband der AWO Thüringen. Unsere Dachorganisation Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO) ist einer der sechs Spitzenverbände der Wohlfahrtspflege in Deutschland. Das LJW besteht aus dem jungen Vorstand, Hauptamtlichen und Ehrenamtlichen in unterschiedlichen Arbeitskreisen zu außerschulischer Jugendbildung, Ferienfreizeiten und kreative Angebote mit jungen Menschen. Alle, die unser Leitbild anerkennen und jünger als 30 Jahre sind, können im Jugendwerk mit machen und an damit verbundenen Entscheidungsprozess teilhaben. Das LJW organisiert sich demokratisch von unten nach oben. Das bedeutet, dass die Kinder, Jugendlichen und jungen Erwachsenen im Verein bestimmen, was in der Jugendarbeit getan wird. Zum Beispiel wählen die Mitglieder unserer Ortsjugendwerke alle zwei Jahre den Vorstand. Das LJW bietet jungen Menschen die Möglichkeit, ihre gemeinsamen Interessen mit Hilfe des LJWs umzusetzen. Wir verstehen uns als politische und pädagogische Akteure. Wir setzen uns dafür ein, dass alle Menschen in einer demokratischen Gesellschaft leben können, in der jeder sein eigenes Leben gestalten und die Unterstützung des anderen erhalten kann. Wir setzen uns für die Rechte von Kindern und Jugendlichen ein.
WER WIR SIND:
- eine Plattform für selbstorganisierte Kinder- und Jugendarbeit für Teilnehmer zwischen 7 und 30 Jahren
- vom Vorstand geleitet (Mitglieder sind maximal 30 Jahre alt)
- Parteipolitisch und konfessionell unabhängig
- den Werten Freiheit, Gleichheit, Solidarität, Gerechtigkeit, Toleranz und Emanzipation verpflichtet
- Koordinierungsorganisation für unsere Mitgliedsorganisationen, sogenannte Ortsjugendwerke, in Thüringen
WAS WIR TUN UND ANBIETEN:
- non- formale Bildung in Workshop-Formaten, angefragt von Jugendzentren oder Schulen (z. B. in Bezug auf Respekt, Diskriminierung, Vielfalt und Identität)
- Schulungen zu jugendspezifischen Themen für Haupt- und Ehrenamtliche in der Jugendarbeit
- internationaler Jugendaustausch und internationale Trainings
- Jugendgruppenleiter*innen-Schulungen (JuLeiCa), wo junge Menschen lernen können, wie sie mit Gruppen junger Menschen arbeiten können
- Sommerfreizeiten
- Freiwillige in Thüringen und in Europa begleiten
- unsere Jugendorganisation gegenüber der Öffentlichkeit vertreten; in politischen Gremien arbeiten
- jugendpolitische Vertretung und Vernetzung des Vereins auf nationaler Ebene (innerhalb der AWO-Strukturen)
