MARDI IS A not for profit community based organisation with an ethos of inclusion and equality, with an emphasis on environmental and human rights, and youth advocacy.
Our aims are:
to engage with hard to reach groups,
to engage and work with young people not in education, employments or training (NEETS)
to increase young people's mobility regionally, nationally, and internationally
To facilitate entry into the labour market for young people who are not integrating in mainstream society
To enhance their prospects of becoming competent in a second language
To raise their confidence and self belief so that they take and seek opportunities to upskill, train/retrain, re enter the workforce or education, through non formal, intercultural projects and programmes.
Target groups: young people from the host and new communities, with fewer opportunities
Regular activities:
We work on an intercultural cross community, cross border basis, with youth from new and host communities, using music, film, street and conventional art, environmental and human rights campaigns, to engage with youth from diverse backgrounds.
We encourage our youth members, participants, and volunteers to "own" their futures: to engage with community and elected representatives, on a local, national and European level, through EU funded youth programmes, and community actions.
We are a sending organisation for EVS, and have sent ll young people to participate in EVS since 2009. We have hosted one volunteer. We have participated in exchanges, initiatives, Grundtvig, life long learning, and training projects and programmes.
We are partners in a youth democracy project this year which links young people to environmental issues, and decision making processes. Our group has highlighted the UGEE (unconventional gas exploration and extraction industry} to illustrate to the wider community that environmental abuses impact on our own human rights.
