The Postojna Youth Center is an organization that focuses on working with and for young people. Every day, the youth center is open and intended for socializing young people. Young people have access to table football, table tennis and various board games, or they can just hang out in the gallery. Throughout the year, we organize various concerts, workshops and other activities aimed primarily at young people. The gallery is also intended for young artists who can exhibit their work here. We cooperate with other local associations, schools and other organizations in organizing various activities. We place great emphasis on the independence and self-initiative of young people, so we enable young people to organize activities that we deem appropriate. We offer young people technical and organizational support, as our goal is to get them acquainted with the organization of events with our support and thus become independent. Our organization has been creating festivals for many years, such as Zmaj 'ma mlade, a two week festival which consists of concerts, different performances and exhibitions, and PO-stoj-na živi ulici z mladimi, a series of different events and workshops aimed at youth. Every year we carry out 14-day children's holiday activities, which are attended by up to 50 children every day. Last year, for the first time, we also held the NAJS holiday, intended for teenagers between the ages of 11 and 15. We are also the holders of the project of the Regional hub of NGO`s of the Primorsko - notranjska region Boreo. In recent years, we have hosted and sent volunteers within the European Solidarity Corps. In our youth center, young volunteers received support in the preparation of a personal project, they were involved in regular activities that we carry out, and at the same time they also prepared their activities. The young people involved in the projects of the European Solidarity Corps have already been and we hope that they will continue to make a wonderful contribution to our organization, as they enrich the program itself, and at the same time employees, volunteers and visitors can learn a lot from foreign volunteers. Through the various programs we run, as well as with the help of volunteers we host, visitors get to know different nationalities, cultures and generally diverse people, and thus break their prejudices and enrich their experience and life in general.
Postojna is the administrative center of the municipality of Postojna in Slovenia. The municipality measures 269.9 km² and has a population of 16,442. It is located in the southwestern part of Slovenia, at the crossroads of coastal and continental world and belongs to the Primorsko-Notranjska statistical region. Due to the traffic routes and location between Ljubljana, Trieste, Rijeka and Gorizia, it has always been the administrative and economic center of Notranjska. As there are many forests in the area, the wood and later the machine and food industry developed. Tourism is also an important industry. Postojna is also an educational center with The School Centre Postojna, consisting of several programmes of secondary school and a higher vocational college, and Forestry and Wood Technology School. It is also an administrative center with a court and a commercial, medical and cultural center. In the city we also have the Student Club of the Municipalities of Postojna and Pivka, a library and a cultural center. Ethnic and cultural diversity has been increasing in Postojna as more and more people migrate there, especially from the Balkans and some Asian countries.
Postojna and its surroundings offer endless possibilities for recreation and exploration of natural wonders. Due to the unique karst landscape, it is rich in caves (Postojna Cave, Križna Cave), intermittent lakes (Lake Planinska and Cerknica) and other natural attractions (Rakov škocjan) while hiking enthusiasts can enjoy the surrounding hills (Javorniki hills, Nanos plateau).
