Beskrivelse af organisationen

Beit Rachel Strauss is a high school for about 60 mentally and developmentally disabled students aged 12-21. It is run by the ministry of education as an alternative to the regular school system for those students with various degrees of disability and educational needs. The students have moderate to severe mental retardation and accompanying disabilities such as epilepsy, paralysis, deaf-dumbness, blindness and autism, often combined with behavioral disorder. Our aim is to train them for autonomy and responsibility in all areas of life (learning, working, living, leisure, mobility etc.).
We have 6 classrooms and offer also single care. A little zoo and a small greenhouse belong to the area of the school. The school activities include:
- formal education according to the standards of the ministry of education
- extracurricular programs including computer training, agriculture, art, physical education etc.
- integration in the community including various projects in conjunction with institutions and organizations in the neighborhood and work opportunities in the community
- training of basic skills to able to cope with challenges of the daily life
- physiotherapy, occupational therapy, music therapy, animal assisted therapy, counseling of parents.
Cultivating contacts to people outside of Beit Rachel Strauss is of great importance for us. Besides that we offer an interesting leisure program in the afternoon like riding tandem bikes, swimming etc.
