Die solaris Förderzentrum für Jugend und Umwelt gGmbH Sachsen (solaris FZU) wurde 1993 in Chemnitz gegründet und erhielt 1994 die Anerkennung als Träger der freien Jugendhilfe der Stadt Chemnitz. Als gemeinnützige Organisation wirkt solaris FZU national und international auf den Gebieten Bildung, Kultur, Kinder- und Jugendhilfe, Soziale Arbeit, Integration, Umweltschutz sowie Forschung.
Das große Tätigkeitsspektrum des solaris Unternehmensverbunds mit einer Vielzahl aktiver Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeitern aus mehr als 30 verschiedenen Berufsfeldern ist Ausgangspunkt für unsere generalistische und ganzheitlich geprägte Arbeitsweise. Im Mittelpunkt unseres Interesses steht der Mensch in all seinen sozialen, kulturellen, ökonomischen und ökologischen Zusammenhängen.
Solaris FZU betreibt in Chemnitz selbst verschiedene Jugendfreizeiteinrichtungen. Dazu gehören:
1.Solaris Jugend und Umweltwerkstätten“ fördern die Auseinandersetzung von Kindern und Jugendlichen mit Naturwissenschaft, Technik und Ökologie in Experimenten, Exkursionen, Workshops, Schülerwettbewerben oder Arbeitsgemeinschaften. Sie dienen der Entwicklung eigener Fähigkeiten und Fertigkeiten und der Stärkung des Sozialverhaltens. 2004 wurde der Einrichtung der Deutsche Jugendhilfepreis (Praxispreis) verliehen.
2.Das Mehrgenerationenhaus Chemnitz mit Schwerpunkt intergenerationelle Arbeit. Als Bestandteil des Chemnitzer Mehrgenerationenhauses gehören „Stadtteiltreff Kappel” und „Kinder- und Jugendhaus solaris-TREFF“ , welche bietet Kindern und Jugendlichen unterschiedlicher Herkunft und unterschiedlichen Bildungsniveaus ein ausgewogenes und attraktives Freizeit-Beschäftigungs-Spektrum und „Ein wichtiger.
3.„Erlebnispädagogisches Zentrum im Küchwald” wirbt mit dem Slogan „… den ALL-Tag erleben“. Zum Erlebnispädagogischen Zentrum gehören folgende zwei Einrichtungen: Kosmonautenzentrum „Sigmund Jähn” und Hocheseilgarten Chemnitz.
Das Kosmonautenzentrum bietet technische und naturwissenschaftliche Angebote rund um Luft- und Raumfahrt, Raketenmodellsport, Astronomie oder Meteorologie. Eine Besonderheit ist das „Stammpersonal“: Erfahrene Kinder begleiten Gäste in und durch die Einrichtung und führen bspw. simulierte Raumflüge mit Besuchern durch.
Der „Chemnitzer Hochseilgarten“ organisiert erlebnispädagogische Aktivitäten und Gruppenevents, die vor allem auf Vermittlung sozialer Kompetenzen und die Bedeutung sozialer Interaktion spezialisiert ist. Das Miteinander in gruppendynamischen Prozessen steht in pädagogischen Kursen in besonderer Weise im Vordergrund.
4. „Kinder- und Familienzentrum Kappelino” mit Kinderhaus Kappelino und Kinderhort in der Valentina-Tereschowa-Grundschule Chemnitz befindet sich in Stadtteil Kappel und hat darüber hinaus seinen Wirkungsbereich in mehrere angrenzenden Stadtteilen.
Zielgruppe aller Aktivitäten sind Kinder und Jugendlichen, junge Arbeitslosen, Familien, Menschen mit besonderen und speziellen Bedürfnissen, Ehrenamtlichen, Freiwilligen.
Neben den in den oben benannten Einrichtungen regulären Anboten und Aktivitäten, solaris FZU unterstützt durch nationalen und transnationalen Aktivitäten Jugendlichen bei Berufsorientierung. Zu dem Portfolio gehören Entwicklung, Organisation und Durchführung verschiedener lokalen und regionalen Bildungswettbewerbe für junge Menschen. (z.B. solaris CUP Wettbewerb für Solarmobile, Brückenbauwettbewerb oder Jugend Forscht.)
Solaris FZU ist ein wichtiger lokaler und regionaler Dialogpartner in Bezug auf Themen wie Bildung, soziale Eingliederung, Integration und Inklusion, bürgerschaftliche Engagement und zielt auf:
- Unterstützung der schulischen Bildung
- Förderung von sozialen Schlüsselqualifikationen und Kompetenzen
- Verbesserung der gesellschaftlichen Integration
- Einengung persönlichen Kompetenzen und Fähigkeiten
- Förderung des bürgerschaftlichen Engagements

The Solaris Educational Center for Youth and Environment gGmbH Sachsen (solaris FZU) was founded in Chemnitz 1993 and in 1994 the city of Chemnitz recognized solaris as an official youth welfare provider. As a non-profit organization, solaris FZU works nationally and internationally in the fields of education, culture, child and youth welfare, social work, integration, environment and science research.

The wide range of activities of the Solaris group, with a large number of active employees from more than 30 different professional fields, is the starting point for our generalist and holistic way of working. The focus of our interest is the human being in all contexts: social, cultural, economic, and ecological.

Solaris FZU itself operates several youth community facilities and centres in the city of Chemnitz. This includes:
1. “Solaris Youth and Environmental Facilities" the child and youth centre promotes activities in the field of science, technology and ecology, and supports the interest of children and young people in related topics. Activities such as experiments, labs hours, excursions, workshops, school competitions or group research activities for children serve to develop individual abilities and skills, and to strengthen the social behaviour. In 2004 the centre was awarded with the German Youth Welfare Prize.
2. The Multigenerational House in Chemnitz is a centre with focus on intergenerational social work and includes two establishments: “Kappel - district meeting point” as a social community support for the whole neighbourhood (predominant elderly) and “solarisTREFF- children and youth center”, which offers children and young people coming from different backgrounds an attractive range of community activities.
3. “Adventure education center in (Küchwald) Forest” advertises with the slogan “experience the everyday and the sky”. The Centre includes the following two facilities: Cosmonaut Center “Sigmund Jähn” and the “High Rope Garden”.
The Cosmonaut Center provides technical and scientific activities around aerospace, rocket model sports, astronomy, or meteorology. Particular for the Center it is established "guiding kids staff" consisting of a group of children, which have the role to take care of the visitors, to present the activities, and play a multiplier role for raising the interest of children in social activities and science.
The “High Ropes Garden” is specialised in outdoor educational activities and organises various courses and events that aims to promote social interaction and development of social skills and competences.
4. Children's and Family Center Kappelino includes a kindergarten and a child-care center in an elementary school in Chemnitz. This Center is very active and serves in several neighbouring districts of thy city. The target group of all these activities are children and young people, young unemployed, families, people with special needs, and volunteers.

In addition to the regular activities in the above mentioned institutions, solaris FZU runs activities aiming to support young people and young unemployed in their career orientation. The portfolio includes several national and transnational activities, projects and cooperation and stimulates the development, organization and implementation of various local and regional competitions in the field of education for young people (like solaris CUP competition for solar vehicles, bridge building competition, or youth research competition).
Solaris FZU is an important local and regional dialogue partner in topics like education, social inclusion and integration, civic engagement and aims beyond all:
-Supports and enhanced school education
-Enhances key social skills and competences
-Improves social integration
-Promotes civic engagement
