Established in 2007 as an after-school club in response to local need, Solas Project has grown into a multi-faceted community organisation supporting approximately 650 young people annually based in Dublin.
Our Vision is to see an Ireland where all children and young people truly know their self-worth and can take advantage of their potential.
We aim to:
- Create a more equal society for young people with fewer opportunities growing up in Ireland today.
- To show young people excluded from the system that they have options and the ability to grow, change and make something of their life.
- Engage with young people into adulthood (up to age 24) in the event that they become involved with crime or end up in the prison system or probation services.
- Provide support for young people who lack that support in their wider community, who may be caught in a cycle of anti-social behaviour and see no other alternative.
Involving volunteers from Europe and further afield enables us to expand this community contribution on a wider scale and increases understanding of Irish society being part of an integrated Europe for all involved.
We run 6 programmes After Schools Clubs (35 5-13 year old children), Step Up Teen Mentoring (60 teens), The Yard (social enterprise / youth apprenticeship for 15plus), Solas @ School (college and business awareness and sports in schools), RUA (outreach in the community), Compass (Prison programme for 17 – 24 year olds).
