ICYE-UK was established in 1993 to promote and encourage inter-cultural understanding and cooperation through international voluntary exchange programmes. ICYE-UK is a registered charity in England and Wales, Charity Commission number 1081907 and is a member organisation of the ICYE International Federation. ICYE-UK works in equal partnership with individuals, communities and organisations to arrange and support international voluntary service programmes which focus on the personal development of the individual and are of benefit to local communities. ICYE-UK has been working within the European Youth Programme for a number of years, being involved with numerous successful EVS projects, in the UK, throughout the programme countries and also outside of Europe. ICYE-UK uses its links within the ICYE International Federation and wider networks to create stable and supported volunteer placements.ICYE UK works with young people who see volunteering abroad as a chance to broaden their horizons and to develop themselves as individuals through youth mobility and intercultural learning programmes. We aim to provide placements that allow volunteers to make a positive contribution to the community in which they will live and work. ICYE-UK was initially run on a voluntary basis by the members of the organisation. It has grown and now employs 4 members of staff but is still managed by a board of trustees, the majority of whom volunteered abroad with ICYE in the past.
