GIOSEF - Giovani Senza Frontiere (youth without borders) - Caserta is a youth association founded in 1999 with the aim of promoting youth mobility, non-formal education and active citizenship in Europe. In order to realize these objectives and encourage the new generation to participate in international and European politics, the association promotes and organizes youth initiatives, intercultural exchanges, training courses, seminars, conventions and cooperation projects for territorial development. Having worked at the European level for many years using the main EU-community programmes to realize their objectives, GIOSEF has been able to create a network of parters working in the same field. This was consolidated in 2010 when the European Network of Youth Associations or InnoYouth was founded. At its heart the network has the objective of introducing innovative instruments for youth participation, international mobility and the promotion of European citizenship through tolerance and acceptance of diversity. Under the previous Youth In Action programme, from 2008 the association realized 10 intercultural exchanges as a hosting partner and hosted a total of 300 young Europeans in Caserta. The association also managed a diverse range of exchanges as a sending partner giving the possibility for young people from the local area to have a mobility experience abroad. Furthermore in recent years, again thanks to funds from the YiA programme, the association realized to local and one transnational initiatives which sought to tackle problems experienced by young people in diverse contexts. From 2011-2014, the association managed european voluntary services (EVS) as a sending, hosting and coordinating organization. In 2013 GIOSEF Caserta colloborated with various associations across the territory to realize ‘LAB-IRINT: Discovering identity’ as the partner responsible for the implementation of activities in the province of Caserta. The project was funded by EU and worked towards the integration of citizens with origins outside of the European community. The project was run in four schools of the province with the objective of improving the educational and socio-cultural integration of immigrant pupils and their parents. The GIOSEF Caserta association and its staff managed and coordinated the implementation of 12 extra-curricular workshops, 6 training sessions with teachers and 6 workshops and information sessions with parents. Another element which characterizes our mission at a local level is the management of a building confiscated from the organized crime organization, the Camorra and assigned to GIOSEF-Italy association. The good was confiscated from Zara Alfredo, one of the leading figures for the Camorra in the 90’s. The building which can be found in Casapesenna, was assigned to the association by the Agrorinasce consortium which manage goods/buildings confiscated from organized crime in the Campania region. The project foresees transforming the building into a youth hostel with the aim of promoting territorial development and youth development. The structure can accommodate 30 guests and is designed for the organization of conventions, seminars and both naional and international traning courses.
